Another Planet

Online Screening and Artist Talk with  Amir Yatziv, Dr. Ohad Landesman and Dr. Laliv Melamed

In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Artport is pleased to present the unique and thought-provoking film ‘Another Planet’ (2017) by Artport’s artist in residence Amir Yatziv. This animated documentary embodies diverse aspects of memory and documentation. The film focuses on several creators of virtual simulations of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. As Yatziv places them in the virtual worlds they have created, he takes us on a mutual journey while questioning reality versus virtuality, the aesthetic and the inconceivable, and the possibility to recreate or represent a traumatic space. Dr. Laliv Melamed and Dr. Ohad Landesman will host a talk with Yatziv, discussing the ways in which he works with computer animation, virtual worlds, fictional avatars and technologies borrowed from different action arenas. Amir Yatziv is a filmmaker and visual artist. Yatziv is Artport’s artist in residence, and a graduate of Bezalel and UDK Berlin (Hito Steyerl class). As part of his occupation, Yatziv is interested in past narratives and their contemporary interpretation, when his works and films evoke a sense of alienation, through which he reveals the impossibility of one coherent historical truth. His works were shown in exhibitions and film festivals around the world.

Dr. Laliv Melamed is a curator, scholar and lecturer for film and visual media at the Goethe  University, Frankfurt. She specializes in nonfiction and experimental film and media. Melamed is a senior programmer at Docaviv. Together with Gilad Reich she co-directed the Platform for Alternative Documentation at Artport.

Dr. Ohad Landesman is a film scholar who specializes in documentaries, cinema in the digital age and animation. He is a lecturer in film studies at the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television at Tel Aviv University.

The conversation will be held in Hebrew.
