Art Port Tel Aviv and Lucie Fontaine are proud to present Fontaine, school of, a project that will take place in Tel Aviv in July 2013.
Lucie Fontaine will be in residence at Art Port Tel-Aviv in the summer of 2013. During her stay, she will establish a summer school inspired by the legacy of the artist’s “bottega” [workshop] in the Renaissance, an interesting time when figures like Giorgio Vasari redefined the notion of authorship and signature, and their positions in the field of visual art.
The school will take place in Tel Aviv during the month of July 2013 and the main goal is to break down the notion of authorship and signature. The title of the project “Fontaine, school of” mimics the way museums define and label anonymous painters who made artworks following the style of a famous artist, i.e. Caravaggio. Here the name “Fontaine” will be used in order to convey a multitude of voices, hopefully in constructive contrast with each other.
The school will be open to 15 international students – from Israel and abroad.
The faculty of Fontaine, school of includes curator Ory Dessau; artist Nahum Tevet; gallery owner Shifra Shalit; artist, food expert and Art Port resident Rafram Chaddad; artist and Art Port resident Einat Amir; curator Joshua Simon; journalist and curator Vardit Gross; artist Dor Guez; Public Movement and Public Movement leader, Dana Yahalomi; gallery owner Irit Sommer; and artist Joshua Neustein, among others.
Art Port Tel Aviv is an international residency program. Its aspirations are to be a home for emerging artists, a place that will be reflected upon as a meaningful milestone in the lives of talented artists, and to serve as a platform for an alternative artistic dialogue, between the local contemporary art scene, international organizations and independent artists worldwide.
